About Us

Family at the centre of our care.

Since 1979 the Brown Family have owned Elreg House. Elreg started life as a family home and quickly opened its doors to offer help, to elderly residents in the local community. In the 1990’s Elreg House became registered to support and care for residents with dementia.

With family in mind, our person-centred care approach means that each resident is respected as an individual and treated with dignity. All our residents have a named key worker and has their own Personal Care Plan. Our home focuses on an enablement approach, with each individual driving their own care.

Our person-centred care approach means that each resident is respected as an individual and treated with dignity. All our residents have a named key worker and their own Personal Care Plan.

Our home has a dedicated activity co-ordinator who organises activities, such as arts and crafts, gardening, reminiscence therapy, and one-to-one involvement.

We encourage residents to carry out small tasks throughout the day, such as helping to lay the table or watering the plants, which helps retain self-esteem and involvement in daily life.

Our carers take the time to learn each residents’ life history, with the help of the residents’ friends and relatives. Understanding the reasons behind an action can help us overcome our residents’ frustrations when they are unable to express what they want – a common problem with dementia.

Our Staff

Our carers take the time to learn each residents’ life history, with the help of the residents’ friends and relatives. Understanding the reasons behind an action can help us overcome our residents’ frustrations when they are unable to express what they want – a common problem with dementia. All staff receive full support from our registered manager; Angelina who has a very hands on approach. She loves to be fully involved in all our residents care and takes a “follow my lead” approach when it comes to the highest care standards.

Angelina encourages learning and promotes an open and fair culture. Staff are taught to involve and treat our residents with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. Staff receive the most up to date training on;

  • national and local data on dementia
  • the different types of dementia and their effect on how people cope with ordinary situations
  • communication and establishing trust
  • behaviour that can undermine interactions
  • how to meet the needs of people with dementia and their carers.

This helps to establish an awareness and understanding in how to treat people living with dementia and their carers with dignity and respect in order to;

  • demonstrate a greater understanding of the various forms of dementia and how these differ in terms of symptoms, progression and challenges
  • develop the skills to identify the needs that are communicated via the behaviour of people living with dementia and respond appropriately to distressed behaviour with guidance about assessing risk
  • recognise the needs of family carers and friends and enable an appreciative and collaborative relationship
  • understand the concepts of person-centred care and planning and know how to better meet the needs of people with dementia.
